Kolhapur: A police officer attached to the Hupri police station in Kolhapur was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹9,000 on Tuesday, for not arresting a woman and her son in an assault case registered against them by their neighbours.
The accused, Dilip Yosef Tiwade, 52, had demanded the bribe from a woman in order to not arrest her and her son in a case of assault on neighbours. The woman had filed a complaint against her neighbor after their dogs had bitten each other.
The woman approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) after Tiwade demanded the bribe. The ACB laid a trap and caught Tiwade red-handed accepting the bribe.
A case has been registered against Tiwade under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Hupri police station.
Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe has appealed to all citizens of Kolhapur to contact the ACB if any government official or employee demands a bribe.
