KIT Debate Spurs Strategic Focus: Engineers Must Master Philosophy, Says Tiwade

Kolhapur– The necessity of integrating philosophical reasoning with technological skills was the central message delivered by Chief Guest, Soham Tiwade, at the inter-collegiate debate competition hosted by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) at KIT College of Engineering in kolhapur.

Mr. Tiwade challenged the students present at the programme comprising 75 participants from various engineering and management institutions—to look beyond mere coding efficiency and focus on self-awareness and rational thought to drive meaningful progress.

Redefining the Engineering Mindset

Mr. Tiwade emphasized that in the current era of rapid technological development, an engineer’s decision-making ability must be guided by ethics and inner vision.

“It’s time to merge philosophy and technology… Philosophy awakens our inner vision and enhances our decision-making capacity,” he asserted.

He stressed that debates provide a crucial environment for free expression and the exchange of ideas. Crucially, he noted, the ability to “listen to others’ ideas with humility, even when philosophical disagreements exist,” is paramount for effective professional collaboration.

SWE’s Role and Local Recognition

The event highlighted the role of the SWE platform, which works to empower and mentor women engineers for professional and entrepreneurial success. The fact that KIT Kolhapur stands as the only officially recognized SWE college in Western Maharashtra outside of Pune lends prestige to its commitment to holistic student development.

Mrs. Sharanya Menon, Head of the SWE Kolhapur Chapter, reinforced the need for maturity in debate, stating that comparative study of diverse viewpoints is “beneficial for one’s personal development.”

The Best Speaker award, following three intense rounds, was secured by Ms. Sakshi Kumbhar from D. Y. Patil College of Engineering, Kolhapur.

The successful organization of the event was supported by the institution’s leadership, including Director Dr. Mohan Vanrotti, and other members of the trust, underscoring the institute’s commitment to intellect and empowerment.
