Mumbai : In a landmark moment for Maharashtra’s agriculture sector, the first shipment of Bhagwa pomegranates has arrived in the United States. This prized variety, known for its distinctive deep red color, thick rind, and sweet, juicy arils, is now poised to capture the hearts and taste buds of American consumers.

On February 28, 2024, a momentous 14 tons (4,258 boxes) of Bhagwa pomegranates were shipped from Maharashtra to the US, marking the culmination of dedicated efforts by various stakeholders, including the Central Ministry of Commerce, the State Agricultural Marketing Board, and APEDA.

The successful export to the US, a major and lucrative market for pomegranates, opens up new opportunities for Maharashtra’s farmers. This breakthrough is expected to fetch better prices for the farmers, boost their income, and contribute to the overall growth of the state’s agriculture sector.
