Kolhapur, Maharashtra: In a move aimed at addressing the rising concerns of marital discord and family breakdown, Shivaji University has taken a significant step by approving the launch of a Family and Marriage Counseling Course. This initiative is expected to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the complexities of family life and foster stronger relationships.
The changing social landscape, characterized by a decline in joint families and an increase in nuclear setups, has often resulted in communication gaps and a lack of guidance from elders. This, coupled with the growing individualistic tendencies, has unfortunately contributed to a rise in marital problems and even divorces.
Recognizing the gravity of this issue, Shivaji University has decided to proactively address it by offering this specialized course. The curriculum will be jointly developed and delivered by the Department of Sociology, Department of Psychology, and the Women’s Study Centre, ensuring a comprehensive and well-rounded approach to family and marital counseling.

Additionally, the program will incorporate social outreach initiatives, with trained counselors visiting villages to provide much-needed guidance and support to communities.
