Darshan Patil becomes first footballer from Kolhapur to play in European League

Kolhapur: Darshan Patil, a young footballer from Kolhapur, has made Maharashtra proud by becoming the first player from the state to play in the prestigious European League. He has been selected by SV Gmunden, a football club in Austria. He is the first player from kolhapur, the city which famous for its exceptional love for football.

18 years old, Darshan will now be seen playing in the upcoming European League. He will be joined by Verman from the Netherlands, who has also been selected to play for the club.

Darshan’s journey to the European League

Darshan hails from Deokar Panand area of  Kolhapur city. He started playing football following in the footsteps of his uncle.He played in the Under-14 National Championships held in Delhi and also in the Under-19 National Championships. His family encouraged him to focus on football.

Darshan’s selection process

Darshan received a call from his coaches Pradeep Salokhe and Dhiraj Mishra, who informed him about the selection trials for SV Gmunden being held in Maharashtra.

The trials were held in Balewadi, Pune, and saw a large number of participants.Only 5 players were selected, and Darshan was .

Initially i thought it was all hoax

When asked about his reaction to the news Darshan said that he had given his name and address during the trials, but he had no idea whether he had been selected or not.

He received a call from his coaches, who informed him about his selection. He was excited and immediately applied for a passport.

However, even after a month and a half, he had not received any official communication from the club. He began to think that it was all a hoax.

Finally, he received a call from Coach Kaushik, who asked him to come to Mumbai. He was given his jersey at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Darshan’s selection is a proud moment for Maharashtra and a testament to his talent and hard work. He is an inspiration to young footballers across the state and his story shows that anything is possible with dedication and perseverance.

In football he is a defender by position. He is trained at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) academy in Pune.
